Aged 86, Late of Upper Carlton, St. James and formerly of Westmoreland, St. James Retired carpenter and relief watchman of Greenland Agriculture Station, departed this life peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Son of the Late Egerton and Viola Broomes.
Former husband of the late Yvonne Broomes and Husband of Jenise Sandiford-Broomes.
Loving father of O’Neal Rochester, Cheryl-Anne Sealy, Omelle, Darwin and Desmond Broomes and Sabrina Beckles.
Grandfather of Antonio, Allyssa, Alleyah, Jaedon, Xavi, Jeshai, Tashira, Jade, Denisha and Akeila.
Great-grandfather of two.
Brother of Bertilla, Vivienne, Stephen, Berkley, Winston, Charles and the late Damsel and Preston.
Uncle of forty-five.
Brother-in-Law of Laura, Esther, Joan, Cynthia and Veronica Father-in-Law of Winston, Jamal, Ryan and Maria.
Relative of the Alleyne, Denny, Payne, Cyrus, Thompson, Miller, Cumberbatch, Hinds and Maynard families.
Friend of Archie, Rupert, Stella, Isaline and many others.
The funeral service celebrating the life of the late Darwin Augustus Broomes, takes place on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at the St. Silas Anglican Church, Water Hall, St. James, where relatives and friends are asked to meet at 1:30 pm.
The cortege will proceed to Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens Pleasant Hall, St. Peter, for the interment.
The body of Darwin Augustus Broomes will be reposed for viewing in The Michael Bryan Memorial Chapel, Belmont Road St. Michael on Wednesday July 15th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and at the Church on Thursday at 12:15 pm from which time floral tributes will be appreciated. The organist and members of the choir are asked to attend.
